1. MOUNT EVEREST, HIMALAYAS, NEPAL/TIBET, CHINA – 8848M
First climbed by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953, Mount Everest is, without a doubt, the highest mountain known to man. The second mountain on the list is the K2. The mountain got its nomenclature from the notation used by the wonderful Trigonometrical Survey of British India. Before being named K2, there wasn’t an apparent known name for this mountain, and with time, K2 stuck. The K2 is known by a cool alias as the ‘Savage Mountain'.

3. KANGCHENJUNGA, HIMALAYAS, NEPAL/INDIA – 8586M
The Kangchenjunga Mountain was thought to be the highest mountain until 1852. This wasn’t due to the fact humans didn’t recognize Mount Everest, but because they had executed their calculations incorrectly. The Trigonometrical Survey of India after carrying out a study concluded that Kangchenjunga is actually the third on the list of the highest mountain globally. This discovery immediately shifted the attention of interested individuals to Mt. Everest, a mountain that is way easier to pronounce, say and spell.
4. LHOTSE, HIMALAYAS, NEPAL/TIBET, CHINA – 8516M
Lhotse is one of the extra popular mountains on most lists of the 10 highest mountains in the world, mostly due to its close proximity to Mount Everest. Lhotse can be likened as an unpopular younger brother of Mount Everest. While mount Everest receives all the attention it can get, Lhotse, on the other hand is considerably less busy, even though it is has more attractive sights. The peak summit of Lhotse was first reached in 1956. In addition, Lhotse middle remained the highest unclimbed spot for decades, but that status quickly changed in 2011 when a Russian explorer broke the record.
5. MAKALU, HIMALAYAS, NEPAL/TIBET, CHINA – 8485M
Mt. Makalu is among the three from the four mountains of over 8000m within the Everest Massif in Nepal. Makalu was first summited by Jean Franco when he led a team of French expedition to the location in 1955. The expedition team set new standards as
all ten members of the team reached the summit. The first two expedition team members summited on 15 May 1955, then additional four went up the following day, then the last four went up a day after the second team.
6. CHO OYU, HIMALAYAS, NEPAL/TIBET, CHINA – 8188M
The Cho Oyu mountain is the final member of the Everest-situated 8000m club member. The 6th tallest mountain globally with a height of 8188m, Cho Oyu is generally considered as the easiest to climb among the Everest-situated 8000m club, due to it's gentle slopes and elevation. Additionally, the mountain is a few kilometers away from the Nangpa la Pass, another major trading path between the Tibetan and the Khumbu Sherpas. Furthermore, If all 4 mountains close to the Everest with over 8000m were to be in a boyband, Cho Oyu would definitely be the back-up singer, as he his not too flamboyant, however, everyone relates with him.
7. DHAULAGIRI, NEPAL – 8167M
With a height of over 8167m, The Dhaulagiri is the 7th highest mountain globally, and one of the most aesthetically pleasing mountains. Located in Nepal, The Dhaulagiri attained the record as the first climbed mountain on thirteen May 1960. The Dhaulagiri is however popular due to its visibility on the popular Annapurna Circuit, which is 34km away.
The mountains are separated by one of earth's deepest gorge – the Kaligandaki Gorge. This vicinity is not in any way lacking scenery.
8. MANASLU, NEPAL – 8163M
Manaslu is the eighth tallest mountain in the world, the nomenclature without a doubt comes from the Sanskrit word ‘manasa’, which means “intellect” or “soul”.First scaled by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu, who were both part of the Japanese expedition that made it to the top of the mountain in nine May 1956. Before that time, locals of the place had initially stopped a Japanese crew from achieving that feat in 1954, believing that preceding attempts had annoyed the gods and precipitated avalanches that buried a monastery in the region, and in the process people were killed. The Japanese made a huge donation and the monastery was rebuilt. However, this gesture didn’t restore the goodwill in the direction of the expeditions and as a result, the second ascent of Manaslu didn’t happen until 1971, when a new Japanese expedition team completed the ascent.
9. NANGA PARBAT, PAKISTAN – 8126M
The ninth highest mountain on the globe is Nanga Parbat, situated in the Diamer District of Pakistan’s Gilgit Baltistan area of western Himalayas. Like many of the other mountains, the nomenclature comes from Sanskrit, with ‘nanga’ and ‘parvata’ which translates to ‘naked mountain’. The Tibetan translation for the mountain ‘Diamer’, meaning “huge mountain”, is perhaps a bit greater suitable. 10. ANNAPURNA I, NEPAL – 8091M
